Be the hero of your own movie
Winner edition 2019
Edition 2019 – Garden 10
Humans are responsible for their own lives, which is why they create their own film. No two lives are the same, but they have similar chapters. The garden is divided into four zones to represent childhood, youth, adulthood and old age.
Childhood. Do you remember when Peter Pan blew pixie dust on the children so they could fly? He said: “All you need is a little faith, trust and pixie dust.” You need faith to walk down the corridor. You have to trust in the next chapter.
Youth. In the film Finding Nemo, Dory says: “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.” No choices are set in stone. There is always a solution. You find yourself among shrubs in disarray, and you can try different ways of moving through them. No option is wrong.
Adulthood. In the scene where Daisy dances and tries to convince Benjamin to spend the night together, they don’t go through with it and that strengthens their relationship. The quote: “Our lives are defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss,” creates the idea that everything has an influence on our lives, for good or bad. So, in this chapter, try what you like. Take off your shoes, sit a while or jump.
Old age. The film The Bucket List deals with the meaning of life, particularly in the scene where Charter Chambers asks: “Have you found joy in your life? Has your life brought joy to others?” Look back across the garden and consider your experience. Take your time. It will all end here.
